1. What is Botox?
Botox is the commercial trade name for botulinum toxin type A. Botulinum toxin is derived from the bacterium clostridium botulinum. When injected into muscles, botox blocks impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles that are related to expression lines. This relaxes the muscles and stops them contracting, leaving the overlying skin smooth and unwrinkled.
